JoAnne Rivington

January 28, 1958 – February 13, 2022

With heartache and profound sadness, with family by her side at her home, we announce the passing of JoAnne, after a very short battle with Pancreatic cancer. JoAnne succumbed to her illness at 7:55 am, February 13, 2022, at the age of 64.

JoAnne was a loving wife, mother, sister, and loyal friend to many, who will miss her dearly. JoAnne is survived by her loving husband Jim Rivington, their sons Chris (Jaclyn), Adam (Gabby), her step-daughters Angie (Howie) Kauenhofen and Lauren (Martin) Armstrong. Granddaughters, Zoe and Chelsey Armstrong and Kady and Keri Kauenhofen, siblings Sue (Jim) Rivers, Gail (Louis) Bacskai, George (Diana) Hulmes, half sister Sandra Scott, Jim’s sister, Kathy (Doug) Bracken, Jim’s brothers, Ted (Debbie) Rivington, Robert (Agnieszka) Rivington, sister-in-law Carrie Hulmes; and many extended family members.

JoAnne was predeceased by her parents Ivor and Irene Hulmes, brother David Hulmes, half sister Margaret Hovorka, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dorothy Rivington and Jim Sr. Rivington.

JoAnne was a graduate of Beaver Brae High School, her early employment was with the Kenora Shop Easy. In 1981 JoAnne graduated as an RPN where she would spend the next 37 years at Lake of the Woods District Hospital. JoAnne retired as an RPN in 2018.

JoAnne and Jim loved to travel and did so with a passion. They visited Australia, Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hawaii, and most of the Caribbean Islands. Their favorite stays were in Mexico at Puerto Vallarta where they met many life friends. JoAnne and Jim also traveled throughout Canada from coast to coast. In 2019 JoAnne, along with her two sisters and her two nieces traveled to Manchester England to connect with the Hulmes families they had never met.

Special thanks to the nurses and doctors and all staff at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, where JoAnne was so well cared for by her Hospital fraternity. A special thank you to Char Melillo who went way out of her way to insure JoAnne’s comfort and care.

A celebration of life, with friends and family, will take place at a later date, where we can gather and share stories and memories about the life of our beautiful JoAnne…
