Joseph Emilien Belair
Joseph Emilien Belair, born March 5, 1936 in Kenora Ontario passed away peacefully on January 28, 2016 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years, Doreen, son John and his wife Helen, daughter Sandra and her husband Tom Bland. Also missing him are his three grandchildren, Aaron and Jeremy Bland and Caleigh Belair (Mike and his girls). Also surviving are his brother Dennis, his wife Diane and family, and his sister-in-law Mildred, her husband Albert Lind and family. Joe was predeceased by his parents Norah and Emilien, his special Uncle Sam and his step-brother John.
Joe was employed from his teen years at the Kenora Daily Miner & News for over 44 years, and can still be seen hard at work on the mural on the Miner & News building. Joe was very involved with the Minnetonka Lodge of the Odd Fellows of Ontario, holding the position of District Deputy Grand Master for several years. He was active in St. James’ Anglican Church in Keewatin as Sunday school super-intendant, People’s warden and on Vestry. As a co-host with his wife at Keewatin’s New Horizons Seniors’ Centre, he enjoyed fellowship, cribbage and whist. An avid fisherman, he had many trips to Separation Lake and other favourite fishing spots on Lake of the Woods. He was known for his participation in awesome shore lunches. After living in a house in Keewatin for more than 54 years, the move to Park Place apartments, also in Keewatin, gave him the opportunity to make many new friends. He will be sadly missed by all those left behind.
A special thanks to all those who provided such wonderful care during his Hospital stay. A memorial service will be held on Friday Feb. 5th, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. Alban’s Cathedral, Kenora. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Lake of the Woods District Hospital Intensive Care Unit, or a charity of your choice.
Joe, Dad, Grandpa we will never forget you.
