Tooke, Laura
(April 161938 -May 5 2017)
On Friday May 5th at Pinecrest Home, after the loving farewells from her family and with her
daughter Colleen at her side, Our Mom, Laura Marguerite May Tooke (nee Alcock), peacefully
passed herself on to the hands of the Lord.
She joins her Mother (Anne Halley), Father (Wilfred Alcock), Stepfather (Henry Halley) and
nephew (Kenny Halley).
Mom is now a cherished memory to those she left behind, her husband Jim, her children Vern,
Colleen (Dwayne), Andy (Wendy), and Candy (Todd). Her legacy continues through her
grandchildren, Matt (Malorie), Clinton (Hillary), Jordan (Annie), Emily (Chris),Jena (Cody), Colin,
Justin (Taylor), and Philip (Kate). She was thankful to have met her 5 great grandchildren,
Addison, Hannah, Aubrey, Nicole, and lily. She also leaves behind her brothers Hank (Terri) and
Palmer (Simone) along with her stepchildren Mike, Doug, Bob, Juanita, Jonathon and Ricky.
After raising her children, Mom returned to school and received her certification as an RNA,
something she took pride in. She enjoyed a variety of handicrafts such as ceramics, rug hooking,
knitting and crocheting. The results of her talents have a special place in the homes of her
family. Mom had a great love of music. She was a member of the St Albans Anglican Church and
sang in their choir for over 20 years. We all recall attending G-Clef Choir concerts where she
was a voice. She participated in 3 summer workshops at the International Music Camp at the
Peace Gardens and used her knowledge as part of the Hand Bell group at the New Horizons
Seniors Center.
Mom loved the Christmas spirit, dogs (even though she gave them strange names),
pussywillows, sweet peas, and tilted game of Scrabble, (where we are certain she made up
words). She was our family historian and thankfully put the names on her collection of black
and white photos.
With Jim as a tour guide, Mom enjoyed the beautiful landscapes and people that Canada offers.
Mom never fulfilled her lifelong wish to visit her father’s grave at a War Cemetery in Holland,
but we know that she is with him now.
The family extend our thanks to the staff at Pinecrest Home and the Benedickson Court
Tenants Association for all their care and consideration over the years.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral service and the internment of her ashes
will take place at a private family memorial.
We love you Mom, you will always be in our hearts. You are now free.
