Leon was born on January 6, 1927, the youngest of 13 children, in Saint-Marc-Du-Long-Lac, Québec. He came to the Kenora area as a young man and was employed by the Mando Paper Company as a woodcutter in the bush. He would later work as a custodian at the Kenora Shoppers Mart, the O.P.P. and the R.C.M.P.
In 1995 Leon married the love of his life, Shirley Beasant, and they spent 21 ½ wonderful years together.
He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Shirley as well as his stepchildren: Donny (Rhoda), Bob (Brenda), Gwen (John), Lee (Susan) and Maurice (Jay). He also leaves in sorrow his 9 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. One of Leon’s greatest joys was handing out special suckers when the great-grandchildren came for a visit. Leon is also survived by 2 special nephews, Alain Morin and Red Nadeau and by other family members in Québec. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters and brothers.
Leon was a kind and loving man who loved his family more than life itself.
As per Leon’s wishes a private family graveside service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers and if friends so desire, donations in Leon’s memory may be made to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation, 21 Sylvan St. W., Kenora, ON P9N 3W7, or the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts, 618 - 9th Street N. Kenora, ON P9N 2S9. The family wishes to thank the Doctors and Nurses at both the Lake of the Woods Hospital and Birchwood Terrace for their excellent care and concern. BROWN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE ENTRUSTED WITH ARRANGEMENTS.
“I know how much you loved me, As much as I loved you, And each time you think of me, I know you will miss me too. So when tomorrow starts without me, Don’t think that we are apart, For every time you think of me, I’ll be right here in your heart!”
