It is profound sorrow with family by her side announce the journey into the spirit world of our dearest mother, grandmother, great grandmother Chikum on August 30, 2020 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
Chikum was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital on February 8, 1955 and was raised in Whitedog.
Chikum was very traditional and was a pipe and drum carrier. She was also a midewin member. Chikum always participated in sweat lodge ceremonies to help her people. She always put herself before anyone else. Chikum worked all her life, berry picking, brush cutting, housekeeping at KCR so many years, and being an Elder to represent Wabaseemoong.
She enjoyed time with her family, children and especially her grandchildren. She was very blessed to be a great grandmother.
Chikum loved playing gin at the community hall, and if it wasn’t gin, she was at the Bingo hall with her buddies, also travelled to the states with her daughter to play at casinos.
If she had spare time, Chikum made trips to the bush to pick medicines and visit her family to pass down her teachings. She was always on the go.
Chikum was blessed with a loving family and is survived by Rosaleen (Jimmy) Muckle, Clifford Muckle, Leslie Muckle and Geoffrey Muckle; her grandkids, James, Alyssa (Darrin), Melody, Jaivein, Ravey, Glenna (Whitney), Andrew, Meaghan, Alanica; great grandchildren, Aliisia, Dane, Roman; sister in law, Bernadette Muckle; uncles, Fred Cowley of WFB; aunt, Mary Cowley of WFB; brother, Roderick Kent; sisters, Doris Henry (Smokey), Sally Burguss (Tim); nephews and nieces, Joni Cowley, Donna Klenk, William Henry, Pauline (Charles) Henry, Patricia Henry, Virginia (Tom) Kent, Derek (Taylor) Hunter, Joey Hunter, George Hunter and Jonathon (Brenna) Hunter.
Chikum was also very close to her relatives that she considered her family and who she loved Philip (Gladys) and family, Linda Muckle, Maurice Muckle Jr., nephew Bruce Muckle, Marcel Muckle and Waylon Scott, Florence Carpenter and family, Kenneth (Joy) Carpenter, Annette Muckle, Charles (Charlene ) Muckle, Mavis Muckle, Melvina (Roger) Muckle, Nancy Muckle, Wayne (Myra) Muckle.
Chikum leaves to join her beloved husband Leslie Paishk, her parents John and Elsie Kent, uncles and aunts, Jimmy Cowley, Frances Cowley, Isabelle Cowley, brothers Bob Kent, Harold ‘Roy’ Kent, her children, Clarence, Violet & Freda. Mary (Maurice)Muckle, Gladys (Robert) Muckle, jack Kent, Josephine Kent, Frances Kent, William Kent, Mary Ann Muckle, Stanley Muckle and many relatives too many to mention.
The family of Chikom would like to say Miigwech to her friends that were always there for her, Dorothy Paypompee, Joanne Paypompee and her nephew Steve (Sash) Jack, Helen Fisher, Darlene, Larry Henry, Harriet Muckle, Melanie and Bertha Scott, Linda Copenace, Glenda Cowley, Judy Boyd, Linda Paishk, Sheila Karaiskos (bingo caller), Tisha Nilne (bingo worker), Melanie S, Bertha, Healer: Mary Jane (Danieal) and extended family.

Wake Services will be held On Wednesday, September 2, 2020 starting at 2:00 p.m. at Wabaseemoong First Nations School.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 4, 2020 at Wabaseemoong First Nation School, with George Land officiating with interment to follow at Wabaseemoong First Nation Cemetery.
