Marlyne moved to Kenora at the age of 14. She met her husband Don in 1969 at the bowling alley and they married in 1971. She worked many jobs in the city including at the Bank of Nova Scotia, running her own day care service, Home Care support services, and the Care-taking of Knox United Church until she retired in January of 2015. Marlyne was devoted to many causes and activities in Kenora. She donated her time and love generously to Knox United Church including the Agape table, U.C.W., Church School teaching, senior choir, youth programming and social coordinator to name only some involvements. She was an integral part of the United Church’s Cambrian Presbytery Youth Programming, Sunny Cove Camp, volunteered to the work of both the Manitoba Northwestern Ontario Conference of the United Church as well as it’s National General Council. Just some of her other community involvements included the G-Clef Choir, Alzheimer's Society, coordinator of Brownie/Girl Guide/Beavers programs and camps, Ringettes, Trylight Theatre Company and in recent years she took great delight in her life as part of the Dragon Tamers. An avid bowler and coach for the Kenora bowling alley, Marlyne was a two time national 5 pin bowling champion.
Marlyne was recently recognized for all her contributions by being given the “Smart and Caring Community Volunteer Award” by the LOTW Community Foundation. She loved being involved in as many things as she could manage, always keeping busy and rarely slowing down. To say that she was especially proud to be a loving parent and grandmother is an understatement. Marlyne was always full of joy, thankfulness, and love, and devoted her life to trying to make everyone around her happy in any way she could.
A Celebration of Marlyne's Life, followed by a reception, will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Knox United Church. In honour of Marlyne, donations to the Knox Memorial Fund and Kenora Dragon Tamers would be greatly appreciated by the family.
