She survived by her 3 children - Arlene (Bill), Alan (Judith), and Philip (Laura). She also leaves behind her cherished and loved grandchildren Alyssa, Andrea, Devon, Claire, Brendon and Jadynn as well as their partners and families.
Ruth was born in Winnipeg and the family moved to Bissett when she was 2 years old. She loved her childhood there in the bush and she and her siblings had many stories about how perfect it was to grow up there. She graduated with class 52A from the Winnipeg General Hospital as an RN and nursed for 11 years in BC, Manitoba, finally ending up in Kenora because her brother was teaching there. She met George in 1956 while playing badminton and they were married in 1960. When Arlene came in 1963 she switched careers to be a stay at home mom.
She sewed our clothes, and cut our hair - whether we wanted her to or not. She played the piano and could turn any word into a song. She always baked and truly had the best cookies, muffins and cinnamon buns ready for George and the grandkids at camp. We will never forget the “delicious” desserts (not) she would make for George. She had the best laugh. She ensured that our childhood was full of outdoor activities that included boating, fishing, and tenting as well as on the snow machine, and ice fishing. She introduced us to downhill skiing and our entire family enjoyed that for years. She enjoyed travelling and looked forward to trips visiting family every summer. Her favourite place to enjoy was close by at camp on Clearwater Bay where so many memories were made.
Mom curled ALL the time. She loved it and so enjoyed the friendships she made and was sad to have to give it up when she was 83.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband George, her parents Charlie and Selma, her brother Roy and sister Doris and brother-in-law Garnett.
We would like to thank Wiigwas for their exceptional care of mom over the last 9 years, especially Mary, Tina and Charito who gave her wonderful care and devotion.
As per moms wishes, there will be no service. Donations can be made to Wiigwas Senior and Elder Care, Kenora, ON.
She was our sunshine and we will miss her every day.
“I’ll love you forever, I’ll love you for always, as long as I’m living my babies you’ll be”.
Rest peacefully mom.
