Mizhikii’aanaqwat (Ryan Todd White) passed away the afternoon of July 19th, 2021 at the age of 50.
Ryan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Maggie White (nee Bird), and his maternal grandparents Agnes Paypompee (nee Seymour) and William Benning. Uncles, Joebit Seymour, Ronnie Seymour, Maynard Rudledge-White, Freeman “Tony” White Sr., and Dennis White. Aunt, Evelyn White. Father inlaw, Eddie Little Sky. Ryan’s cousin’s Hoss White, Dale Jack, Chuck Kelly, Jana Major. Brother inlaws Beau Little Sky, Todd Little Sky, Stephen Little Sky and Kydd Little Sky. Childhood friend Sambo Paypompee. Drum brother, Herb May.
Ryan was born and raised in Whitefish Bay, Ontario. He attended Baibombeh Anishinaabe School and Beaver Brae High School. He was a very bright and successful student with a passion for sports that carried on well into his adult life. After graduating high school, he met his wife Prairie Rose Little Sky on the powwow trail in Denver, Colorado. They were married in Rapid City, South Dakota in 1993 and had two beautiful children. Ryan continued his education and attended Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degree. Ryan went on to teach at Onigaming Mikinaak School, Baibombeh Anishinaabe School, Minisinaakwang Leadership Academy. Ryan was also the Principal/Educ. Director at BBB School in WFB and Principal at Kiizhik School in Kenora. He was passionate about teaching and coaching youth in his community and the Treaty #3 territory. Ryan was also involved as Head coach for generations of WFB Volleyball teams, Team Ontario, and traveled to NAIG’s Winnipeg, Denver, Cowichan, Regina, and Toronto. His family was always proud of his commitment and passion for his love of sports, where he won Ontario’s Native Coach of the Year 2016. Ryan also served as Health Director and Councillor for his community of Naotkamegwanning First Nation/Whitefish Bay, Ontario. Ryan also worked for Grand Council Treaty #3, Bimose Tribal Council, and Kenora Chiefs Advisory.
Mizhikii’aanaqwat is survived by his wife of 27 years, Prairie Rose Little Sky-White, his daughter Ryanne, son Darryan and his best friend Max. His parents Andy and Caroline White, mother in-law, Dawn Little Sky and his siblings Randy (Claudine), Rhonda (Keemootch), Wobby (Charlene), Mandy (Vin Diesel), A.J (Crystal), Miinas (Jojo), Goose (Medz) and Gray Fox (Jayd).
