Thinking of you Laird & family as I just heard from Andrea Rankin, who’s in Australia, of dear Shirley’s passing.  Your hearts will be filled with love & pride as you  realize  how many lives your mother touched with her thoughtful gentle kindness throughout her nursing career.  Shirley was a brilliant nurse, sharing her knowledge, experience & always ready to answer a bell & help everyone.  Working alongside of her was a privilege & I believe, she instilled in many to always give their best.  May your memories  give you comfort.

With loving thoughts I remember Shirley as a kind, wise and caring person who touched the lives of many. My heart goes out to her children and family who have lost a wonderful matriarch. She has left a cherished legacy.

I am grateful to have started work at LWDH the same year Shirley did.  We were both new grads but... She had so much life experience and was a rock for me.  I will remember her fondly.

Dear Laird,       I have just heard that you lost your mother recently.
I offer you my sympathies.   I remember her so well when working on the maternity ward and of course with the newborns.  She was a very gentle and efficient nurse, who never became too flustered.   I really enjoyed working along side her, and any time she raised a concern about a patient, you knew you had to jump into action.  After working at our local hospital, I lost touch with her, but it seems she could not slow down.   She was a wonderful person!

Condolences to Shirley’s Family. I worked with Shirley for many years. Her advice and helpfulness were wonderful,and very much appreciated.

My sympathies to Laird and family on the loss of Shirley. She loved her family so much and was so proud of all of you. She was a wonderful woman and nurse. I loved working with her…always so knowledgeable, efficient, and kind.  She also encouraged me and helped me learn to knit socks!…never giving up on my clumsiness! I think of her often. Hugs

Sincerely condolences to the family of Shirley. She was a great friend and teacher. Such a great person to work with. To go from her being in the birthing room when I was born, to being able to work with her at Pinecrest. Shirley always was willing to teaching you were willing to learn. She would talk your ear off on nights, you were guaranteed to stay awake while working nights together. She could always keep you engaged with the stories she had to tell, or the information she could give you.
Rest well Shirley,  thank you for all your time and information!  You will be missed by many.

Shirley was such a beautiful, caring woman and an extraordinary nurse. I was blessed to have her there when all 4 of my children were born. I’ll always remember how warm and genuine she was. Shirley was truly the salt of the earth. I’ve thought of her often and I’m  sure she’s touched many lives throughout her years and she’ll be missed by many.

Our family got to know Shirley when my Dad was a Pinecrest resident.  She was wonderful to him and all the other residents, and their families. She had such a warm, kind and thoughtful presence and you knew Shirley cared for your family member. 

Rest in peace Shirley - you have certainly earned your Angel wings.

I can remember when I got my long awaited job as a nurse on the maternity unit, I was in awe of Shirley Paul. She was such a good role model. She had this wealth of knowledge, seemingly experienced all there was to experience in the world of maternity nursing. She could run circles around the much younger nurses while providing calm, reassurance and excellent care to anxious labouring families and new parents. Many women returning to the ward would mention Shirley’s name as having a positive impact on their lives. 
Shirley and I shared the love of gardening. She actually gave me some bulbs which I have planted and enjoy their return every year. When she gave them to me, she called them “(expletive) yellow flowers” because they have a tendency to take over the garden. So now when people ask me what those yellow flowers are, I tell them the story and call them “(expletive) yellow flowers! They will mean even more now.😊

My heart felt condolences to the family. I worked with Shirley on maternity for many years. She was a wonderful kind person. She taught me many things about delivering babies  she always had time to answer our questions and show us!

I always smile when I think of my shifts with Shirley and Peggy!  Lots of good memories! May her memory be eternal, and she  is resting peacefully!
