It is with utmost sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear great granddaughter, granddaughter, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, aunty, and mother Sierra Swain-Keeash with family by her side at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
Sierra is predeceased by her grandfather Dennis Fobister, Clifford and Eli Keeash, great grandfather Stephen Keeash, Shoomis Alex Fobister, grandmother Sam Grace Keeash, and cousins Evan Wesley, David Jr. Winters, Nina Thompson and Stephanie Keeash, uncle Wilfred (Walleye) Napish, and her beloved aunty Cynthia Pahpasay whom Sierra was very close to.
Sierra leaves to mourn her mother Desiree Keeash, beloved sisters Dayna Meekis and Aries Redsky, her father Russell Swain (Carole) her brother Brad Swain and sister Crystal Swain-Komer, her baby son Asher Landon and her partner Jaelyn Landon, her second mom/grandmother Veronica Fobister, her kooks Sylvia Pahpasay-Wapioke, her grandfather Chris Swain (Doreen), great grandmothers Caroline Keeash and Evelyn Pahpasay, great aunties Dorothy, Denise (Mike), her aunties Krista Fobister (cousins; Tony, Saphyre, Dennis, April and Kristopher), her aunties Desiree Wapioke (Jeff) and Chelsea Swain (cousins; Adam, Addie, Echo, Regulus, Harper), Bobby, uncles: Charlton Pahpasay, (Lucille) Tyler, Lennox, Mia, uncles Wade Skead and Myles Wapioke, Leonard (Steph), her great uncle/grandpa Zeb Kenequanash (Darlene), aunty/grandma Katie Brown (Fred), her cousins Marlene, Maddux, Mason, Pheonix, Jaden, Kiah, Dalyce, Uriah, Theron, Jasper, Charleigh, Thomas, Kelly Quill, Emery Wesley, Hope W and Elijah Jr W, Joseph M, Kerry Keeash and her sister-in-law and bestie Athena Landon, father in law Mitchell Landon and Uncle Wog aka Nathan Landon. Her extended family, Bert Landon, Eleanor Skead, Will Landon and Julia Landon, her great aunties and uncles Christine Pahpasay, Annette Pahpasay (Robert), Jennifer Pahpasay, Maryann Swain, Maria Swain, Lillian Swain, JB Fobister (Becky), Harvey, Darren, Mary and Lionel Pahpasay; as well as many other family and friends too numerous to mention.
Sierra is a band member of Grassy Narrows First Nation however she was considered a community member of Wauzhushk Onigum as Sierra lived there with Jaelyn and baby Asher is being raised in the community. In her early years, Sierra grew up at Grassy Narrows First Nation. She grew up around grandma and grandpa along with her Shoomis Alex (pootangee as she called him). She always had a special place in her heart for her Shoomis. She eventually moved to Kenora where she lived until now. IN 2020 she graduated from Beaver Brae Secondary High School. Her dream was to be a social worker. She loved spending time with her baby Asher taking him on outings to playgrounds, taking him out to watch his daddy play hockey or baseball. She loved and was proud of her baby. She enjoyed going to pow wow, loved eating her pow wow foods, attending concerts, football games, fishing, travelling, sightseeing, spending time with family and sisters (she loved and cared for them deeply). Sierra loved family gatherings, she especially loved the Christmas season opening her gifts and enjoying family get togethers and dinners, Sierra also loved her smoothies from McDonalds and slushies from the Gap.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of the Intensive Care unit at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital for their care of Sierra and family and friends that came to her side during her time in the hospital.
Pallbearers will be Jaelyn Landon, Charlton Pahpasay, Russell Swain, Wade Skead, Myles Wapioke, Tony Land, Nathan “Wog” Landon and Christ Swain.
Wake services will begin on Monday, December 22 at 12 pm at the Wauzhushk Onigum Bingo Hall and traditional funeral services on Dec 23rd at 10 am with Elder Gilbert Smith officiating. Sierra will be laid to rest close to her aunty, Cynthia Pahpasay at the Lake of the Woods Cemetery.
