July 21, 1952 - June 8, 2010
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne on June 8th, 2010 at Pinecrest Home for the Aged.
Wayne is survived by his wife Jane, sons Ian and Eric and sister Cyndy. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Elsie Ortlieb. Wayne was born and grew up in Kenora. After graduating from Beaver Brae Secondary School he attended Confederation College in Thunder Bay. He returned to Kenora and started his career at the paper mill in 1975 on the finishing floor. He later joined the electrical department where he worked as an electrician until the mill closure in 2005. He spent the remaining four years until his retirement in October 2009 at the Kenora and Norman powerhouses. He served on the executive of IBEW Local 559 for 27 years.
Wayne was active in sports throughout his life, playing baseball, soccer, football and his greatest love hockey. He coached hockey for many years, from Mighty Mites to Juvenile.
Always supportive of his sons activities he coached them in hockey and baseball, joined in scouting outings, fishing, snowmobiling and camping trips.
The family gives their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, speech therapists and all others involved in Wayne's care during his stay at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital and Pinecrest Home for the Aged.
A memorial service will be held at St. Alban's Cathedral on Saturday June 12th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in Wayne's memory to the ALS Society of Ontario or the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation.
