Peacefully in the early hours of the morning William (Bill) Laurance Horseman, long time resident of Kenora, passed away on Thursday, May 25th 2023, at Lake of the Woods District Hospital. He was 72 years old.
Bill is survived by his wife: Sheila, children: Derek and Ian (Bronwen), grandchildren: Morgan and Seamus.
Predeceased by his parents William Giles Horseman, and Florence Emma Horseman (Probert), and brother Philip Horseman.
Bill was born in Oshawa, Ontario in 1951, and grew up in the rural areas of Southern Ontario. He had a love of the outdoors, animals and history. He cared deeply for people and wanted to help people where he could. As a young man he joined the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) and eventually pursued the opportunity to become a canine handler in Northern Ontario. In 1979, that wish came true. He had fond memories of the dogs he worked with, and the lives he was able to touch and occasionally save.
He was able to work in many capacities through his 29 years with the OPP, even working on the Marine unit - out on the lake he loved so much. Upon retirement in the year 2000, he continued to try to help people in different ways. He taught at the local college in Kenora, worked with the fledgling Treaty Three Police, and finally drove a school bus for local kids up until his last year with us.
He loved, and was loved, and he will be missed.
Please donate to 'A Dogs Life' in lieu of flowers. There will be a private family memorial at a later date.
