

Emily Elizabeth Gowens, 97, a cherished resident of Fresno, California, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025. Born October 27, 1927, in Okemah, Oklahoma to Pete and Hattie Teem. Emily lived a long, remarkable life defined by warmth, wisdom, and kindness. Her life was a tapestry woven with selflessness, genuine consideration for others, steadfast loving support for her family, and an ever present warmth that made everyone feel at home in her presence. Emily was the beloved wife of Clarence Gowens, with whom she shared a devoted marriage that began October 27, 1946, lasting 61 years, until his passing in 2008.
Emily was an active member of the Kerman Women’s Club and found joy in uplifting those around her. She touched countless lives with her compassion, radiated warmth wherever she went, and shared hard-won wisdom with whomever sought her counsel. Emily also enjoyed sharing her creativity through her love of oil painting, with her artwork adorning the walls of many of her family members’ homes.
Emily’s love for her family provided a strong foundation, offering gentle guidance, unconditional acceptance, and a ready smile. A loving mother, grandmother, and true matriarch, Emily is survived by her two daughters, Barbara (Dennis) Graham and Betty Gowens; grandchildren Dennis (Ronnda) Graham Jr., David (Karen) Graham, Michele Borboa (Mark) Stafford, and Brent (Christiana) Borboa; 11 great-grandchildren and 9 great great-grandchildren. Emily is also survived by her brothers, Steve Teem and Clifford Teem, and sister, Jewel Johnson. Emily was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Gowens; her parents, Pete and Hattie Teem; brothers, Richard Teem and John Teem; sisters, Lois Teem and Rosa Barnes.
A private visitation and graveside service will be held on July 31, 2025.
Emily will be dearly missed but never forgotten, her true legacy is written in the hearts of her family. We find comfort in knowing our sweet Emily is in the arms of her precious Lord and Savior.
