He is survived by his wife Maria, children Andrea Reyes (Ralph Ramirez) of Fresno, Esteban Reyes (Ana Reyes) of Coalinga, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Rudy was drafted into the US Army and served in Vietnam from 1970 – 1971. He was Class E4, boots on the ground actively engaged in combat.
After Vietnam, he returned to his high school sweetheart Maria. Rudy and Maria’s love spanned over sixty years, married for 53 of those years. A true testament and devotion of understanding, support, and endless love.
As a dad he loved his children unconditionally and treasured every moment with Andrea and Esteban. Our home was always filled with jokes pulled on each other and uncontrollable laughter.
Tata to Anthony Reyes, Yazmyne Rodriguez, Solae Ramirez, Sofia Reyes, Isaac Reyes, Paola and Alejandra Bonilla. Tata was there for every game, dance recital, cheerleading competition or school function beaming with pride and support for his grandchildren.
In the last few years, he was blessed with great grandchildren. Tata to Shia, Amias, and Ayres Reyes. These boys brought back marathon cartoon hours and snacks to their Tata’s routine. Snack time was one of his favorite past times.
Rudy was an orthopedic technologist for 34 years; mending others filled his heart. He made it a point to have candy and crazy cartoon ties to calm the children and always found a way to become a friend to the adults he came across. After 20 years working at Valley Medical Center, he then went to work for Valley Children’s Hospital.
He was member of Kerman VFW Post 8470, marched with the VFW Post for many years in opening for Kerman Harvest Festival parade, and coached the VFW little league baseball team for many seasons.
Rudy was a huge Dodgers and Raiders fan, the neighborhood often heard clapping or yelling during gametime. When at home, you could find him outside in the shade listening to his 60’s and 70’s music. He loved to watch the ocean, Morro Bay was one of his favorites, just watching the tide roll away. He never met a stranger; instinctively he would make a connection. He loved his family and friends; his door was always open to every one of them.
Rudy will be missed, let us be comforted to know he is in the arms of the Lord. For every time you think of him, he is right there in your heart.
