I know we have sent our thoughts by facebook, and through Amy and Brian; but just want you to know we are lifting all of you to the heavenly father today. It is hard not being there. We are sorry to have been unable to come. Memories have been screening across my brain of times when Carl was at his best. After leaving home, both of us, the times of togetherness have been few and far between--Christmas Eve with Uncle Charlie's family; summer vacations, quick week ends, but always the connection. We are sorry the last number of years were so difficult, but praise God that has all ended now I remember how Carl loved his horse, King and the enjoyment he had riding him. I remember cook outs in the back yard when Daddy would fry burgers and we would lie on blankets underneath the stars. I remember Summer evenings when we would drive to town for a movie then stop at the DQ -- sharing the chores, shocking feed, feeding chickens, playing in the cow tank on hot summer days, -- scared of the coyotes when we would have to close up the chicken house at night, -- playing in the milo bin and letting the cold milo bury your legs as it ran down hill. --making ice cream with the crank freezer after we had carried ice home from town. And on and on. We will miss him. Love to all of you.

To the Carl Bateman Family,
I wanted to express my sympathy to everyone at the loss of your dad. I remember both your mom and dad from when I taught at Kimball. I always appreciated their support of you (their children) and the school activities and especially FHA (now FCCLA). I have lost touch with what all of you are doing and where you are at, but wanted to let you know you are in my thoughts and prayers. The picture you chose for the obituary is the exact expression I always remember him having.
I know you are all sharing many great memories of him and also know your faith will help you deal with this difficult loss. Take care and HUGS from me and my husband Jim.
