

Joan (Gade) Lockwood passed away on October 5, 2026, just shy of her 90th birthday, surrounded by family at Kimball Health Services. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held later. Joan was a faithful person and looked forward to meeting her lord and savior. Memorials may be given in her memory to Vista Villa, 720 Vista Drive, Kimball, Nebraska, 69145 for landscaping and the planting of a special tree in her honor. Cremation services for Joan have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.
Joan was born in Sidney, Nebraska, in 1936 to Elmer and Sophia (Jurgens) Gade. She spent her early childhood on the family farm northeast of Sidney. In 1945, the family moved to town when her brother, Don, began high school. Joan graduated from Sidney High School in 1953.
Joan met the love of her life, Jack Lockwood, in January 1951, and they were married in May 1953 in Sidney, Nebraska. Together, they raised four children—Kristy, Doug, Scott, and Stacy—in Kimball County, Nebraska. During those years, Joan was a busy farmer’s wife, helping with transportation, moving farm equipment, and preparing meals for the harvest crew.
Throughout their marriage, Jack and Joan shared a love of fishing and enjoyed exploring waters across many states. They embraced the RV lifestyle, and in their later years of travel, they spent winters in one of their favorite places, Port Isabel, Texas.
Joan is survived by her husband Jack Lockwood of Kimball, Nebraska; children: Kristy Lockwood of Omaha, Nebraska; Doug (Inge) Lockwood of Timnath, Colorado; Scott (Susan) Lockwood of Kimball; and Stacy (Don) Lukassen of Omaha, Nebraska, 12 grandchildren: Kelli Lockwood; Duane and Curtis Holmstedt; Paul and Ben McFarland; Taren Hendricks; Jessica Bogaard; Jamie Murdoch; Justin Lukassen; Alicia Leis; Whitney Smith; and Dalton Lockwood; as well as 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Don.
