

John Charles “Jack” Schadegg, 75, of Kimball, died Monday, Aug 27, at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held at the Cantrell Funeral Home on August 31st from 1-5pm. The Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 pm on Friday, Aug. 31st and Funeral services will be Saturday, September 1st at 10 am. Both will be held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kimball with Father Robert Karnish officiating. Interment will follow at the Kimball Cemetery. Jack was born April 9, 1937 to John and Anna Schadegg in Kimball. He grew up on the family farm north of Kimball and attended school at St Patrick’s Academy in Sidney, NE and Kimball High School, graduating in 1954. He continued farming and ranching after graduating from high school. He married Mary Jane “Janie” Davison on Sept 7, 1957. They were blessed with 6 children and 27 years of marriage. Following Janie’s death, Jack married Carol Lewis on March 15, 1986 in Breckenridge, CO. After retiring from farming in 2005, he and Carol traveled and spent winters in Hemet, CA where they enjoyed golfing, singing and their friends from all over world.
Jack enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and was a big part of their lives. The grandchildren spent many weekends with Grandpa on the farm and at the golf course and he enjoyed attending their many activities. He was an avid golfer and particularly loved golfing with his family and his “Wednesday” group. Known as a local “handy-man”, Jack was known for his willingness to help build or fix anything and left a reputation for never settling for less than a quality job.
After retirement, Jack discovered he had the gift of song. He spent many hours singing and recording his music and produced several CD’s. He loved to entertain and many people were touched by his music.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; children, Laurie (Mark) Thomas, San Clemente, CA; Brenda (Jeff) Smith, Sidney, NE; Paul (Jennifer) Schadegg, Sidney, NE; Scott (Terri) Schadegg, Ft Collins, CO; John (Jill) Schadegg, Logan, UT; Steve (Kara) Schadegg, Holdrege, NE; step-daughter Darci (Troy) Fike, Altadena, CA; step-son Randy (Maureen) Lewis, Ramona, CA; sisters, Louise Jay, Kathleen Busekist, and Marianne Willard; daughters, 19 grandchildren and many special friends. Jack was preceded in death by Janie Schadegg and granddaughter, Megan Smith.
He was known as a man of integrity and for his generosity, strong faith and sense of humor…he will be missed….
