Johnny M. Vigil, 69, died at Monument Care Center in Scottsbluff, on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Rosary services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kimball with Father C.P. Varghese officiating. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. following the rosary. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. Friends may also visit www.cantrellfh.com to view his tribute wall and share stories and condolences with the family. Memorials in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105. The services for Johnny have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.
Johnny Michael Vigil was born July 29, 1957, in Kimball, Nebraska. He was the beloved son of Arthur and Dolores (Rodriguez) Vigil. He grew up in Kimball and graduated from Kimball High School in 1976, where he was active in wrestling and football. After high school, he attended WNCC, earning a degree in auto mechanics. Johnny worked at JK Chevrolet in Kimball for three years, he later worked with Everson Well Service, Liberty Well Service, and Arkie’s Well Service on workover rigs. Following his time in the oil service business, he later worked with Dave Shanaman, helping to trim trees, and later at GRI. He was known for his love of NASCAR and especially Dale Earnhardt, he knew the stats of every driver. Outside of work, Johnny enjoyed fishing and gardening and will be remembered for his hardworking nature and deep local roots.
Survivors include his mother Delores Vigil of Kimball, NE; brother Mark Vigil of Kimball, NE; sister Lauri (Kevin) Delaney of Cheyenne, WY; numerous nieces and nephews and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, both maternal and paternal grandparents, brothers Paul Vigil and Arthur E. Vigil, Jr., uncles, Roger Vigil, T.V. Vigil, Junior Vigil, Johnny Vigil and Robert Fino, aunts, Ruth Phillips, Mary Melchor and Cruzita Cabrera.
