Larry Fegley Schwartz was born on July 22, 1940, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the son of Walter and Evelyn (Fegley) Schwartz. He grew up in Emmaus, Pennsylvania, the second of six children, with 5 sisters. After graduation in 1958, he wanted to be a conductor for Reading Railroad like his “Pappy” but his grandfather (Pappy) wanted him to do something else. “This is not a job for you.” Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force in September 1958 instead, and was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. While in Denver and working a few hours at a bowling alley, he met the love of his life Gwenyth Hendricks. They met on April Fool’s Day-a day they celebrated every year jokingly. 3 months later they married. To this union was born 3 daughters.
Larry went on to serve 8 years in the Air Force with time spent in Denver, Japan and Florida. It was in the Air Force where his love for electronics and computers began, and he received many diplomas, certificates and awards.
After his honorable discharge in October 1966, the family lived in Seattle, WA while Larry worked for Honeywell, and then settled in Ft. Collins, CO where he went to work for Control Data Corporation. Larry continued his computer career and eventually retired from Hewlett Packard.
Larry enjoyed trains, photography and bowling- serving as secretary of the Ft. Collins Bowling Association for many years before leaving there. He also enjoyed skiing, camping, fishing and a competitive game of cornhole. Larry and Gwen bought a camper and moved to Kimball, Nebraska in 2013. The two of them could argue the entire time they set up, backed up, took down and parked the camper. But they would be happy as ever when the work was done. They were given a cup that said “happiness is not getting divorced trying to back up the camper”- something they laughed about and we all still do. They truly loved each other. He will be greatly missed.
Larry is survived by his daughters Sharon (Bill) Fallas, Kimberly Fretwell ( Gary Hooker), Jamie McCloud (wife of the late Dewey McCloud), 6 grandchildren, Rebecca Fretwell, Jessika Brown (Nate), Brenden Fretwell, Anastasia (Brock) Manley, Arica McCloud, Andrew (Hailey) McCloud, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, his wife Gwen Schwartz, son in law Dewey McCloud and several extended family members.
