
Laura R. Eich, 88, of Kimball, died at her home in Kimball on Monday, December 21, 2015. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Kimball Cemetery with Pastor Caryl Miller officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. to sign the register book and leave condolences for the family. Friends may also visit www.cantrellfh.com to view Laura’s Tribute Wall and leave messages of sympathy for the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Prairie haven Hospice. The arrangements for Laura have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.
Laura Rossetta Eich was born in Adams County, Nebraska on August 24, 1927, the daughter of Manns and Mary (Huls) Ewers. She attended school in Adams County and then moved with her family to several locations in Nebraska and Colorado as they took on different farming jobs. She was married to Joseph John Eich on November 23, 1946 in St. Francis, Kansas. Laura worked different jobs. The family moved to Morrill and owned their own farm for a short time. They moved to California while Joe took a heavy equipment course. They moved to Stoneham, Colorado and opened J and L Recreation, a bar and restaurant that they operated for several years. They moved to Kimball and she worked as a waitress and later went to work for GRI. She worked for her son at Riches Wrecking for several years and then went to work for the Longhorn Café. Laura retired when she was 62. She started the Women’s Volleyball League in Kimball and was active in volleyball for 25 years. Laura enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, playing scratch tickets and going to garage sales. She also helped her son deliver specialty parts from his salvage yard. She started the exercise group and was instrumental in getting the church services started at Park Terrace, and was an active member of the First English Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her son Richard (Rebecca) Eich of Gering, NE; daughter Bonnetta (Scott) Nedved of Blackhawk, SD; grandchildren Steven Eich, Stephanie Eich, Emily Nedved, Mason Knudson, Tim (Bridget) Phillips and Raymond (Lindsey) Phillips and 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Carol, brothers Rankin and Henry Ewers and sister Katherine Clavex.
