Ricky Dean Gehrig

“We’re all travelers in this world. From the sweet grass to the packing house. Birth ‘til death. We travel between the eternities.” Robert Duval

Ricky Dean Gehrig, born in Pueblo, Colorado on May 17th, 1957 has headed towards his next adventure in life on October 10th, 2021.

Rick is survived by his wife, Julia Gehrig, daughter Minnie Sue, sons Andrew and James (Angela), and stepsons Patrick, Andrew & Stephen, grandchildren Harry, McKayla, Sammie, Landon & Jackson, brothers Michael Schimpf & Ben Gehrig, sisters Debbie Buckless, Cindy Barnfield, Sherry Bagheri, Crystal Thompson and Constance Forsett.

And last but not least, he leaves behind his buddy, his 4 legged companion, Rudy and fur princesses Feffie and Scar.

He has now joined his beloved son, Nickolas Dean Gehrig, his mother, Sue Schimpf, stepmother Patricia Gehrig, his fathers, Andrew Gehrig & Jack Schimpf, and his many aunts, uncles & cousins.

Rick proudly served in the Armed Forces (To his mothers’ surprise too! The Army sent him home 4 times before he even got to boot camp!!) He was stationed overseas in Germany near the Black Forest & he loved it there because of its’ beauty! Rick was honorably discharged twice and was a brother of the 2/68 Armor Regiment SILVERLIONS.

Rick chose a career of a journeyman lineman. He was raised with a whole family of them in his youth, and it stuck with him for life!

Rick loved his Brothers at the IBEW, young and old, grunts & pushes! He would be proud as a peacock when the younger ones would call him and tell him they made journeyman!! You could often catch him talking of his fellow brothers with love & pride on his face & in his heart & genuine laughter deep from within him!

He was an awesome, extraordinary, & a very ornery man! He had a heart of gold & there was not a soul that he met that he didn’t touch! Rick was a gentle giant! He was kind of like a toasted marshmallow hard & crusty on the outside but all warm & gooey within! He loved to laugh & joke! He loved to tease & wrestle! His wonderful, mischievous bellowing laughter would light up the neighborhood! Rick’s presence lit up the room. Especially if his “presence” smelled oddly like “jasmine & lilac” or “pine & wisteria.”

In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Rick’s good-hearted nature, please take a random moment to open doors with the gift of your time. Trees may also be planted in his memory.

What an AWESOME person you were. Fun loving and a real jokester. Great times were had when we got together. You were kind and compassionate always taking care of others, no questions asked. I'll never forget the whoop'in I received when I blew pepper at you and it burned your eyes, I'm sure you had to have done something to me first (well maybe not).
You will be missed.
Love you BroCo, rest is peace.

I too know too well about the " baby sitter" move Ben! Try as one might it was hard to excape.😁 Oh the memories I can share from when he was young, for instance how he mistook preparation h for tooth paste!
Ricky Dean ( BroCo)) you will forever be missed. You had the spirit of a worrier but the heart of a lamb. I remember you coming to my rescue when I was broke down. You never hesitated to jump to help anyone in need. You will be missed and loved forever. Until we meet again rest in peace and don't worry about the family here, we will be with them all until we are all together again. Love from your SisCo, Connie

When I was little he would literally tie me in a knot. He'd gently arrange my arms and my legs into a configuration and lean me against a wall. Try as might, I could never get out of it. I've been trying for decades to figure out how he did that. He called it "The baby sitter*. That being said, as much of a manimal that he was, he was easily one of the kindest, most gentle, and loving souls this world has ever known. No matter the situation, if he had it and you needed it, he'd give it to you unconditionally. That was his way. And I can only hope to be half the man, father, spouse, grandpa, brother, uncle, and person that he was. Anybody who knows him would agree. Rest now brochacho cheese 😎

When my parents couldn't be at the wedding for James and myself, you picked flowers and put them in my hair like my mom always did. You loved me like your own and I'll never forget that. Peace out ****** bye!
