Bernard Albert "Bud" Benton Jr, age 88 of Kingsley passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 at his home. Bernard was born on Sept. 18, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Bernard and Gertrude (Schram) Benton. He attended Chicago schools, and in the 1940's moved to Kingsley with his family. He enlisted in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He served nine years in the service, and then returned to Kingsley. He married the former Barbara Morgan on June 8, 1951 in Kinglsey, MI. and made this their home. Bud was a very hardworking individual, who provided for his family. It was not uncommon for him to have two or three jobs at a time. He was employed with Tannehill & DeYoung Company out of Traverse City for over ten years, as well as owning his own milk route in Kingsley. He was a zoning administrator and a 20+ year volunteer firefighter for Paradise Twp,. He loved to spend time outdoors; planting trees, growing crops for the deer and birds, and also enjoying fly-fishing, bowling and golfing.
He is remembered by his family as a very caring, loving, happy person, and all around good guy. His wife remembers him simply by being "precious".
Bud is survived by his wife Barbara, children; Margaret (Roger) Miller, Dale (Pamela) Benton, grandchildren; Billy Ray (Shari) Wooten, Logan Benton, Lexie (Jared) Case, And Loran & Lacey Benton. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Erin, Gretchen, Willis and Jay. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Robert.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 11th at 2:00 p.m. from the Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley. Visitation will begin at 1:00 until the time of service.
Interment will be in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Kingsley.
