Carole Jane Elzinga
September 14, 1938 – February 16, 2021
Carole Jane Elzinga, 82 passed away on February 16, 2021 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions with family by her side. Carole had been a long time resident of Buckley, Michigan.
Carole is survived by her children: David Gordon of Buckley; Kenneth Gordon (Dawn) of Buckley; Michael Gordon (Diane) of Vulcan; Amy Larson (Kevin) of Buckley; and step-son, Ron Allen Elzinga (Doreen) of Traverse City, Michigan. Grandchildren: Dennis Gordon, James Dean Gordon, Christopher Gordon, Jennifer Zeits, Rebecka Willard, Lauren Liddell and Jacob Larson along with seven great grandchildren and many nieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents, David and Vina Mae Deno; brothers, Kenneth and Duane Deno; daughter-in-law, Diana Gordon; husband, Ronald Elzinga; first husband, Jerold Gordon; and son, James Gordon.
Carole was born in Howell, Michigan and grew up in Grawn, Michigan. She obtained an LPN license and worked at the Osteopathic Hospital in the OB/Gyn ward for 23 years doing what she loved, caring for newborns.
Carole married Ronald Elzinga in 1975 and they were married for 34 years.
Her family describes Carole as a strong woman who raised five children with love and confidence. She enjoyed telling a joke or story, loved playing cards, scrabble, fishing, reading, watching the Detroit Tigers and being a great cook. Most of all, Carole loved spending time with her family.
A memorial graveside service will take place with a gathering to follow to celebrate Carole’s life. The family will announce this at a later date.
