

Donaldine M. Nickerson, age 89, of Kingsley passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home on Monday, August 13, 2012. She was born March 19, 1923, in Kingsley to John B. and Alice Mary (Younglas) Ockert. Donaldine graduated from Hannah St. Mary’s as valedictorian in 1941. On January 1, 1943 she married the late Max Roland Nickerson in Detroit. Together they raised 7 children.
Donaldine was a member of the Kingsley United Methodist Church. She was also a very active member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, traveling, playing cards, sewing, and baking. For many years she owned and operated The Coffee Cup Restaurant in Kingsley, she worked for Ranch Rudolph as the head chef, and was the office manager at Kingsley Telephone Company. She loved spending time with her family, especially her many grandchildren.
Donaldine will be greatly missed by her children: Patricia (Al Saxton) Nickerson of Hayfork, CA., Max Ronald Nickerson of Kingsley, Janice Nickerson of Kingsley, Steven (Carol) Nickerson of Kingsley, Pamela (Jeffrey Broderick) Nickerson of Grawn, Gregory Nickerson of Kingsley, and Bradley Nickerson of Kingsley; 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; siblings: Robert (Marge) Ockert, Joseph “Jay” (Mary) Ockert, Gerald (Kathy) Ockert, Ralph (Zita) Ockert, Margaret Lewis, Frederick “Fritz” Ockert; many nieces and nephews, her beloved dog Sophia, her dearly trusted care givers, her extended church family, and dear friends near and far.
Besides her parents, Donaldine was preceded in death by her husband Max Roland, siblings: Ethel Nickerson, Eleanor Bauer, Geraldine Ockert, Leroy Ockert, Beatrice Weidner, Clarence Ockert, Marie Sedlacek, granddaughter Sara Elizabeth Marie Broderick, and great granddaughter Kailey Jennifer Conners.
A visitation will be held Sunday, August 19, 2012 5-8 p.m. at the Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley. A funeral will be held Monday, August 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial of cremated remains will be held Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 9 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Kingsley.
Memorials may be directed to the Kingsley United Methodist Church, Munson Hospice, or The Rock of Kingsley Youth Center.
