Dorothy was born on February 7, 1924 in Detroit, the daughter of Arthur and Violet (Kelly) Tomes. She moved to Kingsley as a child, attending Kingsley Schools. In September of 1941, she was wed to David Brautigam and raised three children.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of Kingsley Baptist Church and has been in attendance for over 60 years. She was a member of Club 18, Gideons Auxillary, Kingsley Civic Club, a volunteer at the Kingsley Library, and a Sunday School teacher. With all of her volunteering and memberships, she still found time to read, travel, cook and bake, and do what she loved most – spend time with her family.
Dorothy loved her family with all of her heart and will be missed by those who survive her; children, Judith (Neil) Smith, Suzanne (James) Kirk, and David (Sally) Brautigam; brothers, Arthur (Jean) Tomes and Michael (Diana) Sheridan; sisters in law, Eileen Reamer, Marion Lesher, and Beverly Johnson; 9 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her husband, David Brautigam in April 2009; parents, Arthur Tomes and Violet (Lyle) Sheridan; and sisters, Jacqueline Kearney and Dolores Dalrymple.
