George T. Schweifler

George was born March 6, 1942, in Grand Haven, the son of Anthony and Hazel (Pellton) Schweifler. George married the late Ruthann (Dillingham) Schweifler on April 4, 1969.

George was raised in Grand Haven and moved to Traverse City in 1977. He and Ruthann moved to Tombstone, Ariz., where they owned and operated an R.V. Park. In 1988 they had moved back to Traverse City. While in Traverse City he ran an AFC Home and worked at the post office.

George loved his Red Wings and going to auctions. He enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking and going to the casino to play Keno.

George is survived by his children, Tim (Amy) Schweifler, Tammy (Bud) Lappo and Tony Schweifler; grandchildren, Anthony, Emily, Mackenzie, Alyssa, Jacey, Andrew, Brandi, Buster, Waylon, Cheyenne, Lisa, Taylor, Christina, Curtis James, Kaitlynn and Tony; step grandchildren, Joe and Dustin; great-grandchildren, Haley and Audrey; and close friend, Ben Schultz.

George was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at 11 a.m., at Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley. Visitation on will be Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, from 4 to 7 p.m., also at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help out with final expenses.
