John A. Gustafson

John married the late, Carol Kaczorowski, on July 21, 1962 in Alpena. Together they raised 4 children.

John worked as an Architectural Draftsman down state. In 1970 he and Carol moved to Traverse City where John worked in the Automotive Industry as a Quality Control Engineer. In 1984 they moved to Fife Lake. He retired from Dura in Mancelona in 2005.

John was a member of the Sons of Norway Lodge and coached hockey for youth and senior leagues for several years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing and raising sled dogs, and spending time with family. John also looked forward to his annual fishing trip to Canada.

John will be greatly missed by his family and friends, he is survived by: Karen (Dean) VanSteenburg of Grawn, Gary Gustafson of Kingsley, Patrick (Shelly)Gustafson of Rapid City, and Scott (Tracy) Gustafson of Bismark, ND; 11 grandchildren: Justin VanSteenburg, Andy, Jessica, Nathan, and Shaun Gustafson, Leann Schenk, Johnathan “JP” (Janessa) Gustafson, Tommy and Terrance Tufford, Janell and Ricky Gustafson; brother Richard (Shirley) Gustafson; 2 great grandchildren and John’s beloved dog Fred.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, in 2008, 5 brothers, 6 sisters, and a very dear friend Jack “John” Neimi.

A visitation will be held Monday, October 6, 2014 from 6-8 pm at the Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley. A funeral will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 11 am with visitation 1 hour prior also at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow the service.

Memorial contributions in John’s name may be directed to the American Heart Association or Charity of one’s choice.
