Lyle Dean McManus

May 24, 1934March 10, 2020

Lyle (Pooch) McManus, of Hannah, died peacefully surrounded by family on March 10th, 2020 at the age of 85. Lyle was born on May 24th, 1934 in Fife Lake, Michigan to Verl and Eva (Bunker). He graduated from Kingsley High School in 1952. He met his wife, Carol Steinebach in a strawberry patch and married in 1953 and together had fourteen children. He attended ITT in Fort Wayne, Indiana. After returning to Northern Michigan he worked at the State Hospital and Cone Drive. Lyle and Carol moved to Battle Creek where he worked as a machinist at Clark Equipment for twenty-nine and a half years. Lyle was known for his quick wit and a story for every occasion. A talented gardener of produce and flowers, he was known for his large garden, giving most of the harvest away and passing on his love of gardening to his family. He prided himself in his many yearly entries at the Northwestern Michigan Fair. He loved hunting and admiring the deer his children and grandchildren tagged. Lyle was an avid reader, a history buff, and could easily tell you who you were related to. A member of St. Mary Hannah Church, he was the Cemetery Association President and a dedicated volunteer at funeral luncheons, the Chicken Dinner, and many other parish events. Lyle is survived by his wife, Carol (Steinebach) of 66 years, children, John (Pamela) of Battle Creek, Connie (John) Howard of Coldwater, Ronald of Battle Creek, Yvonne (Jerry) Rose of Bellevue, Christina (Dean) Bott of Buckley, Thomas of Battle Creek, Pamela (Shawn Chamberlain) of Hannah, Elizabeth, James, and Andrew of Hannah; 26 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Vesper (Pat) Paton, son-in-law Gene Snook and daughter-in-law Linda McManus. He is preceded in death by children, Bonny Snook, Donald, Timothy and Christopher; grandson, Dean Patrick Bott; great granddaughter, Emma Louise McManus; and siblings, Vivian, Verl, and Darrell. Visitation will be Sunday, March 15th from 5-7 pm at Covell Funeral home in Kingsley. A funeral is scheduled for Monday, March 16th at 11am with visitation beginning at 9:30 am at St. Mary of Hannah Church, with a luncheon immediately following.
