OBITUARY

Thelma Evelyn Welke

February 5, 1941December 24, 2019

Thelma Evelyn Welke (Preece), 78 of Kingsley, formerly of Traverse City, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24th with her family at her bedside holding her hands. Thelma was born February 5, 1941 in Kileen, Tx.

She was a long time employee of Lear (United Technologies) in Traverse City, retiring in 2006. She cherished the time she spent with her boys, grandkids, and great grandkids. She enjoyed reading books from cover to cover in one day, finding deals at garage sales, but most of all she loved her chocolate! She had a love of being a “mamma” to any and all neighborhood children however she could. Her sassy personality brought a smile and a chuckle to those who were privileged to have her in their life.

She is survived by her sons Michael (Tina), and Edwin (Lisa) Welke both of Kingsley; grandchildren, Autumn Welke, Kurtis (Kaysea) Tulppo, Katherine (Anthony) Bui, Tyler, Grace, Lilly, Ryan, and Jake Welke; and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Wayne (Lou) Preece and sister Kay (Lynn) Benjamin, all of Texas.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 28th at 3:00 p.m. from the Covell Funeral Home, 200 N. Brownson Ave. Kingsley. Visitation at the funeral home will begin at 2:00 until the time of service.

The family would like to thank the Staff at the Grand Traverse Pavilions for their special care and kindness they provided to Thelma during her time as a resident over the past three years.

So many memories to choose from, so I’ll just give thanks instead. Thelma Welke- thank you for raising your sons to be good men. I have a wonderful husband, who is the best father, thanks to you. I thank God everyday that I have him. You were a good mama, and even better grandma. You will be so missed.

One of my favorite memories is how you would make my Halloween costumes! I remember dressing up as Bella and you'd be the beast also Minnie and Mickey.

I am thinking back to you and Aunt Liz and when you guys convinced me that frogs would turn into Prince's and I brought home on the airplane from texas a suitcase

Love you Grammy. I know you're right here with me.
