Winifred Joycelyn Ashmore

Winifred Joycelyn (Blissett) Ashmore, age 84, of Traverse City, passed peacefully away early Sunday, August 13, 2017. She was born August 19, 1932 in Rapid City to Ira and Katherine Blissett and raised on the family farm with her 10 siblings. Winnie enjoyed her childhood on the farm and remained close to her sisters and brothers throughout her life.

Winnie graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1950, and on January 20, 1951 she married her high school sweetheart, Lyle Ashmore at the Parsonage in Williamsburg and together they had four children. Winnie loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending baseball games and camping with them. She also loved reading, crocheting, sewing, and working puzzles. She adored a good yard sale, collecting many treasures over the years, and attended the Buckley Old Engine Show every year.

Winnie is survived by her children Cheryl (Tom) Olds, Craig (Sally) Ashmore, Christopher (Terry) Ashmore and son-in-law Mike Eagle; grandchildren Aaron (Nicole) Olds, Justin (Annie) Olds, Sarah (Troy) Sherman, Rebecca Eagle (Jason), Melana (Joe) Burman, Jeremiah (Stacey) Eagle, Thaddeus Eagle, Jacob (Stephanie) Eagle, Zachariah (Meghan) Eagle, Brian Thorson, Lyle (Jess) Ashmore, Logan Ashmore, and Dillon (Brittany) Ashmore; 19 great grandchildren; sisters Theo Evertt, Anna Keough, Charlotte Drake, and Mary Jane Dechow; and brother Leroy Blissett. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle; her daughter, Cynthia; her sisters DeVota, Rosaline, Wilemena, and her brothers Frank and Clark.

Visitation took place both Thursday, August 17, 2017 and Friday, August 18, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley. The

Funeral Service was held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial immediately following at Williamsburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions were made to The Villa at Traverse Point, 2828 Concord St, Traverse City, MI 49684. Arrangements were entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Kingsley.
