Aenos Elias Whitmer Jr.

Aenos Elias Whitmer, Jr., 85, passed into the loving arms of his Savior on Friday (December 28, 2018) following a brief illness. Aenos was born on December 18, 1933 in Clifton Forge, VA to the late Aenos Elias & Ora Blanche (Kelley) Whitmer.

Aenos unselfishly served our country as a Staff Sargent 1st Class in the United States Army for 25 years as well as the Army National Reserves. He served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War, in which he earned 2 Silver Stars and a Bronze Star. He actively attended Walnut Hill Presbyterian Church. Aenos was a 50 year Mason, and was also a clown for the Shriners Hospital. He later retired from Indian Path Medical Center after 17 years of dedicated service where he was the Director of Food Services. In his spare time, Aenos enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and Lady Vols Basketball. Aenos was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend; he will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Aenos was preceded in death by two sisters, Beulah Dobbs and Martha Dobbs; and brother, Oscar “Buck” Whitmer.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 41 years, Mildred Dixon Whitmer; daughter, Debby Whitmer Carver & husband Keith; special niece, Birdie Curtis & husband P.C.; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Military rites will be provided by American Legion Posts 3/265 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. Immediately following, the family will receive friends on Monday (December 31, 2018) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Moehn officiating.

Committal services will be held on Monday (December 31, 2018) at 2 p.m. in Mausoleum II at East Lawn Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Walnut Hill Presbyterian Church (224 Midway Drive Bristol, TN 37620).

Midge and family,

My condolences to Miss Mildred and to Debbie. I met him when i came to work at Farmers Insurance. Words cannot express how much of a loss he is to me. He was my friend as well as insured. He always called me kiddo and I loved talking to him every chance I got. I love him and will miss him very much. He is everything a good man should be. Rest in Peace Mr. Whitmer I will cherish our friendship and love you always

I was very sorry to hear that Mr. Whitmer had passed away. I remember him as a wonderful hospice volunteer for Wellmont Hospice. He provided companionship to patients faced with terminal illness, respite to exhausted caregivers and always made the staff laugh at the hospice house.
