

Alma Lee Price, 90, left this earth to be with her Lord and Saviour early Saturday morning, September 12, 2015, at home with her family by her side. Mrs. Price was born May 1, 1925 in the Pressmen's Home community in Hawkins County, Tennessee. She was one of nine children born to Orville and Gertrude Lelia Carver. Mrs. Price was saved at a young age and was baptized in Poor Valley, Hawkins County. She was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church. She moved to Kingsport when she was 16, and in 1944 she married Ben D. Price. Mrs. Price began a career in food service when her youngest daughter started school, and she went to work for Lynn Garden Elementary School in the cafeteria. She later worked as cafeteria manager at Litz Manor Elementary and Brookside Elementary. Her renowned cooking skills and love of cooking for others led her to open her first restaurant, The Coffee Shop, in Church Hill in 1964. She then opened and co-owned The Dipsy Doodle Drive-In in Colonial Heights. After it closed, she opened the Downtown Coffee Shop in downtown Kingsport and later the Village Restaurant on East Center Street, which she owned and operated for over 20 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Ruth Russell, Mary Bowlin, Mamie Freeman, and Naomi Bowlin; her brothers, Eugene Carver and John Dedrick Carver; her husband of 45 years, Ben D. Price; and her grandson, James "Jimmy" Lee Buckner. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Judy Lavaun Rader and Phyllis White Dykes and husband Norman; granddaughters, Christie Brewer King and husband Tommy, Angie Carter Chapman and husband Chris, Amy Carter Gray; grandson, Bryant Brewer; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Gray, Lindsay Gray, Lauren King Dalusio and husband Jamie, Caleb Stone, Claire Chapman, and Carter Chapman; great-great-grandson, Emerson Dalusio; brothers, Ralph Carver and Glen Carver; and numerous nieces and nephews. A private visitation service was held for family on Monday, September 13, 2015 at East Lawn Funeral Home in Kingsport, Tennessee. A graveside service followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport, Tennessee with Rev. J. W. Depew officiating.
