

Bernice Haga, age 94 of Kingsport, entered into God’s Heavenly Kingdom on Saturday, November 28, 2015. Bernice was born to the late Johnny Hammonds and the late Mellie Spears Hammonds on September 4, 1921 in Sullivan County, TN. On March 27, 1946, Bernice married Mr. Wayne Haga, and after more than 40 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 1987. From her humble beginnings and throughout her life, her faith in Jesus Christ never faltered. Her love for Christ was exemplified throughout her life: as a mother, wife, and friend, her true self was always present. Bernice was a member of Westview Missionary Baptist Church in Kingsport, Tennessee for over 67 years. From teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir, she served the Lord in every aspect of her life. Bernice loved the color red as it was a symbol of Jesus Christ’s saving blood to all humanity. She will be remembered as an individual who truly knew what it meant to first serve Christ, and then to serve others. Bernice is survived by one son, Roger Wayne Haga of Kingsport, TN; two daughters, Rita Moore of Greenwood, S.C. and Ruth Ehrlich of Marietta, GA; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Haga; one daughter, Ronda Mellons; her parents, Johnny and Mellie Hammonds; three brothers; and three sisters. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Westview Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1037 Fairview Ave. in Kingsport, Tennessee. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. immediately following visitation at Westview Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Stout officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Everlasting Life III. The family requests that all family and friends who attend the funeral service to please wear the color red in honor of Bernice. Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Haga, Jason Mellons, Bill Ehrlich and Tim Hodges. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Westview Missionary Baptist Church Mission Fund.
