Betty had many titles in her life, but the one she treasured most was being a child of God. She lived her life for the Lord and was involved in her church for many years. She was a prayer warrior day and night. She was a loving and devoted wife, mom, and mother-in-law. She was a wonderful nana to all her grandchildren, and she loved them dearly.
She was born February 4, 1950, to the late Jack and Ruth Peters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 25 years whom she cherished and built a family with, Arthur Lee Leonard; sisters, Chris Hensley, Bell Leonard, and Kadie Castle; brothers, Dick Peters, Roger Peters, Ronnie Peters, and two infant brothers, Billy Joe Peters and Donnie Lee Peters. She was also preceded by a special brother-in-law, G.T. Leonard.
Following the passing of her first husband, Betty found a loving companion in Harold Steven Self, whom she spent 26 devoted years with. Left to cherish her always are her daughters, Jamie McNutt and Heather Ball (Shannon, who was a very special son-in-law); stepson, Stephen Self (Emily); granddaughters, Savannah McNutt, Kelsey Wells (C.J.), Mariah Mullins (Cameron), Bailee Ball; great-granddaughter, Launa Hurd (James-Launa’s father); great-grandsons, Jace and Joey Mullins, Caden and Kolby Wells, and Moses and Elliot Self; sister and last sibling, Pat Hughes (Richard). Pat has stood faithfully by each sibling and has been their, as well as their children’s, rock for many years. Betty is also survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Peters; brother-in-law, Clint Hensley, and several nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
She also leaves behind her special friends, Preacher Eddie Zimmerman (Pat). Preacher Zimmerman served as her pastor for many, many years at Faith Baptist Church in Blountville, Tennessee, where Betty is still a member and attended faithfully until her health declined. Betty had a host of friends she cherished and loved dearly.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Gentiva Hospice, especially Rachel, Latosha, and Donna. We thank each one of you for your tender loving care. She truly loved each one of you. Also, a very special thank you to Kelly Rupe for all your love and support for our precious mom. We all truly love you!
