Elizabeth “Betty” Harrington Wiggs, age 59, of Blountville entered eternal rest with the Lord Friday morning (July 2, 2010) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Lebanon, VA, a daughter of the late George W. and Dorothy Ferrell Harrington, she grew up in Honaker, VA and has resided in this area for the last 24 years moving from Atlanta, GA.
Betty had been employed by Airborne Express (DHL) for 30 years. She was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church where she taught the children’s choir, a member of the Bristol Women’s Club, Junior League and also worked with Food City in organizing many pageants and recruiting judges. She enjoyed tennis, sewing, golf, cooking and grocery shopping.
Betty graduated from University of Tennessee in 1974 and was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority at Queens College.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who was involved with her care, support and for food and prayers.
Survivors include her husband of 15 years, Jeff Wiggs of the home; two step-daughters, Summer Wright and husband Daniel of Johnson City and Nikki Wiggs of Kingsport; one granddaughter, Chloe Lee Wiggs; one brother, Winston Harrington and wife Debbie of Bristol, VA; one niece Brooke Breeden and husband Calvin; one nephew, Christopher Trey Harrington and wife Carly and their children, Kyra, Isaac and Sophia all of Knoxville.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday (July 4, 2010) at East Lawn Funeral Home and at other hours at the residence. Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel with Mike Morgan officiating.
Burial will follow graveside services at 11:00 a.m. Monday (July 5, 2010) in Clark Cemetery, Honaker VA. Those attending are asked to assemble at the gravesite by 10:45 a.m. Monday. Pallbearers will be Trey Harrington, Calvin Breeden, Mike Athey, Nolen DeVault, Wendell Millsap and Greg Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Wiggs, Randall Jones, Dale O’Dell, Wayne Sherfey, Wayne Bridges and Daniel Wright.
