Carrol Fletcher Harbin, age 82, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026, with her family around her, a peaceful and comfortable step over into Heaven and into the presence of her Savior, Jesus.
Carrol was born in Martin Town in Southwest Virginia in 1943, the daughter of Curt and Marine Fletcher. Curt was a coal miner and family farmer and Marine was a true country homemaker. Carrol was raised in a close family of two sisters (Erma and Linda) and one brother (Donald). Their legacy has passed through to 3 generations now. We remember fondly live music and singing in the kitchen on Saturday nights and then hearing them sing together at Martin’s Chapel on Sunday morning when someone would ask if the Fletcher Children could come up and share a song. And of course, there was always Sunday dinner together around adult table and kids’ table.
Carrol was a graduate of Ervinton High School and attended nursing school in Abingdon. Carrol later completed her AS in Nursing at ETSU and was honored as the top graduate in her class.
Carrol worked many years at Holston Valley Medical Center and later for Home Health and The Regional Eye Center.
While an amazing nurse, Carrol’s passion was her family and her church family. Carrol and her husband Allen raised two boys and invested their time faithfully in them. There wasn’t a band concert or competition or important milestone that they ever missed. Camping and fishing with extended family, annual trips to the beach, frequent family get-togethers, and especially Christmas (her favorite) are the richest memories for her family.
The family was active as part of the First Baptist Church of Bluff City in the 70’s and 80’s where Carrol sang in the choir and co-taught the College and Career Class. Carrol and family became members of Indian Springs Baptist Church in 1987. There, Carrol taught in the Youth Sunday School, Clown and Mime Ministry, and sang in the choir and played french horn in the orchestra. She always looked forward to the Summer Mission Tours and being creative with a table at the Women’s Holiday Dinner. Carrol invested in her friends and the youth and positively impacted countless lives. A life well lived.
Carrol is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles Allen Harbin, her parents, her brother Donald, and her sister Erma. She is survived by her sons Kevin Harbin and wife Mindy, Brent Harbin, and Robin Harbin; grandchildren, Morgan and wife Alyssa (and great grandson Theo), Rebecca, Ethan, El, Caroline, and Natalie. Her grandchildren lit up her world. She forever will be the Mammaw that showered them with love, grandmotherly guidance and heavy doses of spoiling that any Mammaw worth their salt would. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Hill of Dublin, VA and her sister-in-law, Carole Long of Morristown, TN.
Carrol’s family would like to thank the medical providers at HMG, HVMC, Spine and Rehab, Rheumatology Consultants in Knoxville, and Ballad’s Bristol Cancer Center who cared for her frequently in the last few years. We would like to also express our deepest gratitude to the Preston Place Suites staff and Smoky Mountain Hospice staff for their unmatched and compassionate care as Mom made her journey home.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until noon on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Indian Springs Baptist Church followed by a service at noon. Entombment at East Lawn Memorial Park will be private.
