Carson was a devoted member of Sunnyside Baptist Church where he was a member of the Board of Deacons and served as Church Trustee until his failing health prevented him from performing these duties. Carson truly loved his church and his church Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Carson was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who truly loved his family.
Carson was an avid fisherman and hunter who made annual trips to Lake Richard B. Russell State Park in Georgia, and having hunted extensively in Bathy County, VA on Walker Mountain, Mill Creek, Chestnut Ridge, and Jerkim Tight sections. Carson was past Vice President of the Good Ole Boys Hunting Club and a long standing member of the Cherokee Rod and Gun Club.
Carson was a 1961 graduate of Lynn View High School where he was voted Most Valuable football player during his senior year. He attended Northeast State Technical College where he studied Chemical Technology and Mathematics; he also studied Chemistry at East Tennessee State University.
Carson retired from Holston Army Ammunition Plant with over 55 years of combined service with Holston Defense Corporation and BAE Systems; having served as Senior Supervising Technologist in the Explosives Finishing, Material Handling, and oversaw Traffic Department until being reassigned as Senior Technical Assistant in Explosives Manufacturing Division working on the implementation of the Manufacturing Resource Planner for the Manufacturing Area.
Preceeding Carson in death was his paternal grandfather, Robert Crockett Wilson; paternal grandmother, Magdalene Francis Carter Wilson; maternal grandfather, Henry Hagan Hughes; maternal grandmother, Fern Fugate Hughes; father, Charles L. Wilson; mother, Louise Hughes Wilson; young sister, Kathy Fern; and father-in-law, John H. Barrett, Jr.
Surviving Carson are his loving wife of over 57 years, Sandra Barrett Wilson; son, Brian Wade Wilson; Daughter, Sherry Jacqueline Wilson; grandsons, Harold G. Walker III (Beau) & wife Lauren and Cody Wade Wilson; granddaughter, Carrie JoBeth Walker & fiancé Jerimiah McKinney; brothers, Robert H. Wilson & wife Diana and Charles Creig Wilson & wife Sue; sisters, Carolyn Roselle Templeton and Cindy Lou Williams & husband Jon; great-grandsons, Boone Gray Walker and Penn Solomon Walker; sister-in-law, Sherry Fuller & husband Luther; brother-in-law, John Barrett III & wife Sandy; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday (March 12, 2018) from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sunnyside Baptist Church (406 Cooks Valley Road Kingsport, TN 37664). Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Roy Graves and Pastor Beau Walker officiating.
Committal services will be held on Tuesday (March 13, 2018) at 1 p.m. in the Garden of the Well at East Lawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Scott, Wilmer Duncan, Dustin Wilson, Brandon Wilson, Herb Powers, and Jeff Myers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ratliff Auditorium, Sunday School Class at Sunnyside, and active Deacons.
