

Cecelia “Cece” M. Watkins, 85, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. She was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Cecelia was born on February 17, 1940, in Gaffney, South Carolina. Throughout her life, she resided in several states including Georgia, Virginia, and South Carolina but made Tennessee her home in 2011. Her vibrant spirit and creativity drove her to build and own several successful businesses throughout her life. Her love of antiques and unique style will be forever celebrated by her family. Cecelia is survived by her three children, Douglas Shirley (wife, Melinda) of Richmond, VA, John Shirley of Elizabethton, TN and Betsy Natz of Mclean, VA. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Lorraine Pfeiffer of Havelock, North Carolina. Cecelia, lovingly known as Grandmother (Grandma Cece) is also survived by four grandchildren she loved deeply and that brought her great joy: Sarah Shirley, Hannah Shirley, Douglas Shirley Jr., and Nicholas Natz. She also had four great-grandchildren: Declan Condrey, Davin Condrey; Emyrson Shirley and Brixton Shirley. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sara S. Moore and George Marion Moore, her brother, Joseph Moore and her husband, Mike Watkins.
Cecelia was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. Anyone who encountered her would agree that Cecelia was a true original. She will be forever remembered for her loving heart, strong spirit, and zest for life. Though she will be missed immensely, her light and love will continue to shine on through the lives of those who knew and loved her, carrying on her legacy for years to come.
