Charlie “Ray” Cress, age 72 of Church Hill, TN, passed into the glories of Heaven during the morning hours on Saturday, February 1, 2020. Ray was born to Kermit Cress and Hazel Wilson of Norton, VA.

He retired as a sales associate from Home Depot in Johnson City. He will be remembered for his love of family, yard sales, and Coca Cola. He will be truly missed for his sweet personality and smile.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; daughter, Debbie Patterson; and sisters, Dona Velie (Jeff), Betty Warden.

Ray is survived by his sister, Wanda Skeen (Dean); brother, Johnny Kilgore (Thelma); two daughters Heather Hutchins (Jeff) and Brandi Calhoun; eight grandchildren Steven Patterson, Ashley and Chelsea Hutchins, Brenton and Taylor Marlow, Zoe, Savannah, and Phoebe O’Neal; four great grandchildren; and several aunts, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gospel Fellowship Church @ 260 Bradley Creek Rd., Surgoinsville, TN 37873.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held immediately following the visitation with Brother Melvin Farmer officiating.

I missed Ray after he retired from Home Depot. I enjoyed days when Ray was working. He was so friendly & helpful to everybody. He'll be missed & thought of often. Sorry for the family's loss of one of the best men I've known. RIP Ray..I'll miss you. 😔

Charlie Ray Cress was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Charlie will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
