On April 6, 2024, the world lost a great person and an incredible force for good. Christopher “Bootleg” Edward Darnell (b. November 25, 1993) passed away leaving behind fiancée Samantha McHugh as well as Katie Darnell, his former wife and the mother of his sons Brayden and Henry.
He is also survived by his parents Eddie and Karen Darnell, stepmother Stephanie Kuck, brother Nicholas Darnell and nephew Greyson as well as dozens of cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends, and his future stepchildren, Samantha’s son Nate and daughter Charlotte.
Christopher brought joy and inspiration to everyone he met; the world was a better place with him in it. He enjoyed simple pleasures such as spending time with his boys, talking to his friends, beating his family in video games, fishing, listening to classic rock and country music, and watching football. He also offered compelling stories through his long-running podcast series which he titled with characteristic dry humor, “Not a Real Podcast.” As a boy, he proved he could get along with anyone, making friends with Syrians, Trinidadians, and Norwegians while living overseas. His passion for liberty, commitment to his children, and genuine hope for everyone to make the best lives they could for themselves was unparalleled. He was larger than life in every aspect of the word and now our lives all seem smaller.
Always loved and never forgotten, may he rest peacefully with his daughter in God’s grace until we meet again.
A memorial service will be held at Sunnyside Baptist Church at 5:00 pm on Friday, April 12, 2024. Flowers may be sent to Christopher Darnell c/o 3632 Deland Drive, Kingsport, TN, 37664 or donations in lieu of flowers may be made to The Fathers’ Rights Movement (https://tfrm.org/donate/) or St. Jude’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
