Cleatis Grant Meade
May 26, 1930 – May 30, 2019
Cleatis Grant “Cleat” Meade, age 89 of Kingsport, entered into eternity on Thursday, May 30, 2019, after courageously battling a lengthy illness. Cleatis was born on May 26, 1930 in Pound, VA to Stafford and Etta Meade. Cleatis retired from Eastman Kodak after 27 years working as a Senior System Analyst. He was president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and he received Man of the Year for his dedication to the organization.
Cleatis was a devout husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was in the true sense a good family man and friend. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and, most of all, golfing with his friends. He found peace playing on the greens with his golf buddies: Bill Moore, Tim Hennis, and Tom Wilkie.
Cleatis was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 29 years, Joanne Meade; and one sister, Velma Powers. Left to carry on Cleatis’ legacy are his second wife of 28 years, Rene’ Meade; three children, Cathy Gravitte (Ray), Mitzi Myers (Scotty), and Edward Meade (Barbara); sister, Jo Anne Morris, brother-in-law, Ray Powers, two step-daughters, Sandra Wooten (Eric), and Christina Smith (Daniel); grandchildren, Alexis, Matt, Danielle, and Savannah (Zachary); great grandson, Kasen; and several loving friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Bridge Home No Kill Animal Rescue. The organization requests that donations be made on their facebook page of the Bridge Home No Kill Animal Rescue or donations be mailed directly to The Bridge Home No Kill Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 654 Blountville, TN 37617, (423)-239-5237.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. A celebration of Cleatis’ life will be held at 2:00 pm, immediately following the visitation with Brother David Dotson officiating. Cleatis will be laid to rest on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at 3:00 pm at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Christus with full military honors; American Legion Post 3/265 will be conducting the military honors. The family will be serving as pallbearers.
