Cosby Nannie Elizabeth (Fields) Gobble, 89, of Meadowview, VA went to be with the Lord on Monday (January 21, 2019). She was surrounded by family at home when she gained her angel wings. Cosby was born on November 24, 1929 to the late Jefferson & Della Fields in the mountains of Washington County, VA. She was one of 20 of her fathers’ children and her mother’s oldest surviving child.
Cosby was a firm believer of the Christian faith and a long-standing member of Woodland Hills Christian Church-Meadowview Campus (formerly knowns as Mt. Carmel Christian Church). Cosby retired from Meadowview Elementary School where she worked as a cafeteria lady. She worked alongside her husband in the fields, loved working in her garden and was a wonderful cook. She had a very caring heart and contributed to many charities. She was a good friend to many and the best mother and grandmother anyone could ask for. Her grandchildren were very precious to her and she loved spending time with them. She has left a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.
In addition to her parents, Cosby was preceded in death by her husband, Amos H. Gobble; 10 brothers, Clint, Arnold, Howard, Edgar, Canie, Lloyd, Newton, Garnett, Doug and Ewens; eight sisters, Lula Mae, Ethel, Odell, Zenobia, Carrie, Pauline, Lillian and Mary Jane; and one son-in-law, Larry Selfe.
Left to cherish her memories are her sister, Edna Glass; three sons, Hisel Gobble & wife Robin, Larry Gobble & wife Linda, Lannie Gobble & wife Debbie; two daughters, Linda Selfe and Tammy Garland & husband Tommy; nine grandchildren, Ricky Gobble, Randy Gobble, Travis Selfe, David Gobble, Brian Selfe, Keith Gobble, Devin Mijal, Julianna Gobble and Brittany Widener; six step grandchildren, David Selfe, Michael Selfe, Cecelia Helton, Brent Barrett, Leslie Honeycutt and Erica Garland; 27 great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Elijah, Alyssa, Kelsea, Josea, Ryan, Presleigh, Jaeliah, Kade, Kolin, Kylor, Rylann, Kiley, Kallum, Bethany, Analeigh, Jace, Eli, Henry, Isabelle, Wyatt, Natalie, Lucas, Zachary, Dylan, Kelsey, and Olivia; 2 great-great grandchildren, Maisey and Jackson.; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
