

Dean was the son of Anna Mae Carter and Quinton H. Carter and was born on March 10, 1945 in Johnson City, TN. Growing up he shared a special relationship with maternal grandmother, Angeline Watson Allison. Dean was an avid athlete and held several Track and Field records at Ketron High School where he also played basketball. Dean went on to excel at running Track and Cross Country during his education at Bridgewater College under the leadership of Dr. Joplin. Dean earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology, graduating in 1967.
Dean’s professional career included teaching high school biology, medical sales, and as a real estate agent. Dean loved the outdoors and especially relished fishing and hunting. He was a student of Tennessee military history and enjoyed learning about the life of Sergeant Alvin York. Dean also collected and sold items of postal history with his wife, Brenda.
Dean is survived by his loving wife Brenda, who shared nearly 14 special years with him. He is also survived by his daughter, Leigh Anne Weitzenfeld, her husband Jesse, and grandchildren, Nick, Hallie and Emmett; his son, Jeff Carter, his wife Lindsay, and granddaughter, Madeleine; and daughter Dawn Cluxton along with grandchildren Elizabeth, Josh, Ben, and Jeremy. Family members by marriage are daughter, Lori Camp, her husband Greg, and grandchildren, Addison, Logan, and Max; and son, Michael Wagoner, his wife Christina, and grandchildren Barrett and James. Dean is also survived by his sisters, Loretta Price, her husband Michael, and grown children John (wife Julia, and kids, Jack, Willa, Emmeline, and Shepherd ) and Andy (wife Lesley, and kids, Chloe and Madee); Martha Bellamy, grown children Judy Gadde (husband Jay) and Mark Bellamy (wife Ann); Kay Scanlon, her husband Mike and grown son, Mario (partner Sameda, and kids, Rebecca, Rex, Kylie, and Alric) ; and Barbara Hamm, her husband Steve and grown son Matthew.
A graveside service will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Apostles on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. to celebrate Dean’s life. He has left us all too soon for his heavenly home and he will be missed.
