

Denver D. Cook, age 83 of Kingsport, entered into rest on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Holston Valley Medical Center. He was a native of Sullivan County and the son of the late L.C. (Sr.) and Belle Cook. Mr. Cook was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School, where he helped his team win the 1949 football state championship. He was a member of Belvue Christian Church. Mr. Cook proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He retired from Eastman Chemical Company after 40 years of service.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Helen Cook in 2010; brothers: Elmer Cook, Robert Cook and W.R. Cook; sisters: Beatrice Bradley, Nellie Cook and Edna Earle Cook.
Survivors include his daughter, Angie Goodwin and husband Nathan; grandsons: Wesley Goodwin and Brad Goodwin and wife Natasha; great grandsons: Landon Goodwin and Alex Goodwin; great granddaughter, Makenzie Goodwin; brothers: Jerry “Skipper” Cook and L.C. Cook, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC; sisters: Betty Cook and Della Cook, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 5, 2012 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:30 p.m. with John Owston, officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in East Lawn Memorial Park. Everyone is asked to assemble at the funeral home by 9:30 a.m. to go in procession. Pallbearers will be deacons and members from the church. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons and great grandchildren. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at his daughter, Angie’s residence.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Belvue Christian Church, 2700 East Center Street, Kingsport, TN 37660 or to the Sequoyah Council, Boy Scouts, P.O. Box 3010, Johnson City, TN 37602.
