

Dolas Darnell Matney, 89, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on May 24, 2022 at her home. She was born to the late Rev. William "Ted" Rosevelt and Mary Frances (Herron) Darnell in Scott County, VA. Dolas will be remembered as a God fearing woman who loved her family unconditionally.
Dolas was a member of the Restoration Fellowship Church where she loved traveling and spreading the love of God through mission trips. She was a dedicated employee at Toohey, Jordan, Stewart, Dishner Insurance Agency where she later retired after several years of dedicated service. Dolas loved and cared for her family and will be memorialized as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed reading and studying her Bible; her faith and love of God was evident to everyone she knew and her light warmed strangers. Dolas had a selfless and caring spirit, of which she cared for her family and always made sure they were taken care of – even before herself. Her love, kindness and gentleness will never be forgotten.
In addition to her parents, Dolas is preceded in death by her loving husband, William E. "Eddie" Matney; sister, Audrey McNew (Neal); infant sisters, Jackie Darnell and Shirley Darnell, sister-in-law, Joan Darnell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Robert Matney (Bernice), Charles Matney (Ruth) (Wilma), and Paul Wilson.
Survivors include her loving children, Kim Matney Peterson (Greg), Valerie Matney Hammonds (Terry), William E. “Jody” Matney Jr. (Julie); brothers, Garnett Ray Darnell, Rev. Jonnie Lee Darnell (Lynn); grandchildren, Christy Michelle Hicks (Tyler Barnes), Marlaina Gayle Peterson, Makenna Elise Peterson; sister-in-law, Loretta Matney Wilson; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The Matney family will gather for a celebration of life and to greet friends and share memories on Saturday, May 28, 2022 from 2pm – 4pm in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will follow at 4 pm with Dr. Steve Hooper and her brother Rev. Jonnie Darnell officiating. A Committal and Interment Service will follow the Funeral Service on Saturday, May 28, 2022 in the Garden of Everlasting Life at East Lawn Memorial Park. Rusty Melton, Kenny Hicks, Keith McNew, Jon Darnell, Frank Light, Mike Winegar, Trevor McNew and Skip Dockery will serve as pallbearers.
