Dorothea Irene Ellis Porter, 89, of Kingsport, passed away February 12, 2015 at Emeritus Senior Living in Kingsport. Born on June 27, 1925 in Sarasota, FL, she was the daughter of the late Charles Ellis, Jr. and Mary Nelle Money Ellis. Mrs. Porter was an active member of Cassidy United Methodist Church. She worked in the shoe department and candy department at JC Penny’s in Kingsport. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, having served as Worthy Matron of the Blountville and Kingsport Chapters. She also served as Chaplain of the State Office for the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Porter was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and a compassionate friend. In addition to her parents, Charles Ellis, Jr. and Mary Nelle Money Ellis, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jack Oliver Porter; grandson, Michael Hale; great-grandchildren, Gabe Laughlin and Christa Hart; sisters, Jane Sargent, Charlene Childers and June Miller; and sons-in-law, Randal McGaha, Don Stoneham and Greg Laughlin. She is survived by her daughters, Jackie Stoneham, Brenda McGaha and Eileen Laughlin; son, Ronnie Porter (Kay); 12 grandchildren, Tony McGaha, Tommy McGaha (Donna), Renee Rock (Greg), Mickey McSwain, Bruce Hale (Wendy), Teronya Holmes (James), Tiffany Smelser (Mark), Brandon Porter (Dinah), Scott Laughlin (Laura), Timmy Laughlin, Terry Laughlin (Sandy) and Chris Laughlin; 25 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; and sisters, Helen Porter (Joe) and Joan Jones (Gene). The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 15, 2015 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Brandon Porter officiating. Graveside services will follow the service in the Garden of Love of East Lawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers are Mrs. Porter’s grandsons and great-grandsons.
