Dorothy Kathryn Bethany

Dorothy Kathryn (Puckett) Bethany, 84, went to be with Lord on Monday, August 10, 2026. She was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, TN. She was very well known in her community as the Pretty Blonde-Haired Lady who worked and managed several convenience stores. Dorothy worked for many years at Klockman Mills and for several years at Sullivan County Youth Center, giving her love to children in need. Dorothy attended Living by Faith Church in Blountville, TN and held a deep admiration for her cats. She was a loving, kind, and considerate Mother to her 6 children and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Berta Puckett, of Sullivan County, TN; her husband, Carl Wayne Bethany; her brothers, Roy Puckett, Bill Puckett, and Robert (Rob) Puckett; sisters Janie Taylor and Nanny Proffitt; sons Samuel (Sammy) Proffitt, Michael (Mike) Proffitt; and great-grandson Joshua Strong.

She leaves behind children: William (Willie) and wife Mary Proffitt, Deborah (Debbie) Haynes, Mary and husband David Waterman, and Delores (Tina) and husband Lee Jones; her grandchildren: Jessica and husband Lynn Moriarty, Kathy and husband Daniel Hyder, Amanda and husband Derek Gilly, Kevin and wife Moriah Miller, Dustin and wife Jessica Waterman, Chelsey and husband David Grubb, Valorie and husband John Sawyer, Stephanie and husband Mickey Reed, Lester (Spanky) Haynes, Christopher(Chris) and wife Jessica Proffitt, and Heather Proffit; along with several great grandchildren; as well as great great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings: Junior Puckett, Jerry and wife Cathryne Puckett, George and wife Renee Puckett, Charlie and wife Kathy Puckett, and Margarete and husband David Leonard; and her loving hairdresser and very special friend Jenny McCray.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 5:00 pm – 6:45 pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. The funeral service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will follow in the chapel at 7:00 pm with Rev. Johnny McGee and Mickey Reed officiating. A committal graveside service will be Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 12:00 noon at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Hope.
