As I sit here thinking what words I can possible say to express my sadness of Doug's passing, I surrender to my memories. Such as how forgotten muscles in my face would automatically come to attention creating a huge smile in response to the one he would direct at me every time we met. And then his distinctive voice as he would bellow my name, followed by his contagious laugh and outreached hand, there to firmly grasp mine. Some may think me selfish for saying that I will miss these, among many other things, that built the foundation of our brotherhood almost as much as I will miss my friend. But today I am feeling that another good thing in my life has been plucked away leaving me with only memories.  To Doug's family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss. To Doug, I will never forget you.

We are so saddened to hear of Doug's passing… Doug was a very caring person. We were blessed  to have him as a neighbor for many years. He always took time to check on us, even after he moved he would stop by.  We will miss him.  Dana come and  see us when you can. We are so sorry for your loss.  We will keep you in our prayers . I am so sorry for your loss.  I worked with Doug for several years and bowled with him also.  He was a great person and will be missed.

If my hugs were strong enough to take away your pain, I would start now and never stop.

Bud (or Bob as Doug called him) was devastated by Doug's passing away. I have only seen him cry very few times in 25 years, but this is one time he cried...big tears of sadness. We 3 had so many good times together. Doug and Bud were best of friends and spent many hours bowling, listening to music and fishing.  I'm signing on behalf of Bob - he loved Doug like he loved his own brother and I know he will always miss him.

My prayers are with Doug & his family during this time of sorrow. I have worked many a Kingsport Fun Fest cleanup event with Doug over the years. Not sure who retired 1st, him or I, but it was always a pleasure to share any work assignment with Doug.

Doug was so very special!  It broke my heart that he passed away, and I've cried many tears since I heard about his passing.  He always called me "sis" and I loved him like I love my own brothers.  What a special person Doug was - he was an amazing, kind-hearted and unique individual that will be missed by all who truly knew him.  His sense of humor...his smile....his laugh...those are the things I think of when I think of the amazing Doug Shipley!  

Doug, I pray you are resting in the arms of our Heavenly Father. I love you and will miss you forever. I pray to see you again when we all get to heaven!

That pic was taken in Rogersville at a pond I took Doug to several times. We had the BEST time catching fish like that all day. I often tell people how excited Doug got when he landed a huge fish.
