

Dr. Ellis graduated from the University of Tennessee Memphis Medical School in 1955 with a D.D.S. Degree. He practiced Dentistry for 50 years on Anderson Street in Bristol, until his retirement in 2011. He truly loved working with all of his patients and the children were a great joy in his life.
Among many of his accomplishments, he was a past Director of the Boys Club of Bristol, Director of the United Way, and President of the Oacanosta District of Boy Scouts; He received the Eagle Scout Award for the 45 Membership Recipient. Dr. Ellis was a past member of the 12 Degree Mason of Lodge #13, the Jericho Temple Scottish Rite, and Sullivan County Shrine Club and York Rite. Dr. Ellis was also the Past Chairman of Bristol Tennessee Planning Commission and the Director of the Boys Club, and also the United Way.
Dr. Ellis was the original founder of the local Tree City USA Board. He actively engaged in planting “one million trees” throughout the greater Bristol area by Tennessee’s Bicentennial in 1996, receiving the “Growth Award” for two years. The National Arbor Society honored Dr. Ellis for his dedication and service to preserving the environment.
Dr. Ellis was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bristol and attended Shades of Grace United Methodist Church of Kingsport for several years.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Ellis was preceded in death by his wife, Oacluce Booher Ellis; and sister, Daphne Clark.
Left to cherish his memories are his two daughters, Sharma Sherbank, of CA and Marilyn Ward & husband Les, of Kingsport; nephew, David Clark; nieces, Linda Esser and Donna Scalf; and dear friend, Ellen Hughes.
Dr. Ellis will be laid to rest beside of his loving wife, Oacluce Ellis, on Saturday (May 6, 2017) at 11 a.m. in the Garden of Peace II at East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Will Shewey officiating. A reception of his life will immediately follow at East Lawn Funeral Home in the catering room.
