

Edith Mary Grissom Smith, age 91 of Kingsport, crossed over to continue her journey on May 5, 2016. She was born on August 20, 1924 in Hamblen County, TN to the late Floyd C. Grissom and the late Cora Bell Parker Grissom. Edith had been a long standing member of the Gospel Assembly Church.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Ralph P. Smith; sisters, Nell Perry, Geraldine Hoppers, and Maude Grissom; brothers, Glen, Carl, Earl, Herbert, and Arlie Grissom; step daughter, Judy Smith Cowden; son-in-law, Jack Adams; daughter-in-law, Wanda Smith; step grandchildren, Paula Smith Shipley and David Cowden. She is survived by her sons, Frank W. Vermillion and wife Frankie, and Mikel W. Smith and wife Carol; stepchildren, Frances Smith Adams, and Ralph “Jerry” Smith; and son-in-law, Wayne Cowden. Mamaw Smith was blessed with three grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren, and three step-great, great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Fred Huff, Mollie and Jennette Manning, her many visiting friends and the caregivers of the Wexford House.
The Family will receive friends on Monday, May 9, 2016 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Fred Huff and Donna Shuecraft officiating.
Interment will immediately follow in Christus Garden of East Lawn Memorial Park with Edith’s grandsons and great-grandsons serving as pallbearers.
